Scholarships are important because they allow colleges to gain popularity because people who wouldn't normally attend certain colleges get that option. Scholarships are a great way to provide opportunities for people. Since they help people start off their careers after college with less debt and less stress, people have more opportunities to take their careers in the directions they want to. With more people attending colleges,the colleges can provide better facilities and better education levels. Having weird scholarships also caters to people's specific talents and traits that make them unique. It recognizes parts about people that could easily go unnoticed. #collegetransition

1. Before college, I need to take my ACT and I would like to retake my SAT as well. I also need to get letters of recommendation and fill out some applications.
2. I am going to take my ACT early this summer and then later I will retake the SAT. I will get my recommendation letters at the beginning of the school year next year. I will be filling out my applications as I complete new things.
3. Academically, my grades can be higher, although they are technically high enough.
4. These colleges seem good to me because they all offer good kinesiology programs and are in cool locations.

I believe a college degree is necessary in most cases. It mostly depends on your future goals however. For instance, someone going in to the military does not need a degree, but someone wanting to become a lawyer definitely needs one if they ever want to be hired. Degrees are extremely expensive, but not many people will hire someone with out a college degree. In my opinion, degrees are essential if you want to get a high paying job in almost every case.

The school system in Australia gives you very similar opportunities to the ones in America. Our school system and theirs are fairly similar. The largest difference that I found with my partner was the names of the grade levels. College is slightly cheaper for Australian students, but they may not make as much money there so it is hard to tell for sure if it really is any different. #collegetransition

Over spring break, I will be going on many adventures. By that, I mean I will be rock climbing a lot and avoiding Abby Thomas. I will also be running and working out. Whenever I am not adventuring, I will be playing guitar. I will also be sleeping over the break. I will also be house sitting for some friends. Finally, I will be working at the house my family is remodeling. #collegetransition

1. The most influential leaders I have ever had would be my parents. My dad and I have very similar personalities so we are able to enjoy a lot of the same things together like play instruments or play sports or go for a workout. Ever since I was little, my dad has shown me all sorts of life lessons and helped me to see what the most important things are in life. Me and my dad have a very similar thought process as well. My parents do a really good job of balancing each other out. Where my dad is a very energetic person, my mom is good at being a calming influence. My mom has done a great job as I've grown up, teaching me how to deal with people and she is always a good comforting person to have around. She also shows me when it is time to be competitive and when it is time to let things slide... I'm still pretty bad with that quality though.
2. I think what Mr. Keating said means that poetry is an important part of people's lives because it allows them to express their emotions in ways that are not available at their day jobs. I mostly agree with Mr. Keating, I believe however, that many people can express the passion Mr. Keating talks about in ways other than poetry.
3. I definitely agree with this quote because it seems to me that people often times get too wrapped up in the way something is supposed to be viewed and forget how they really feel about it. When I help my dad with the house we are remodeling, I am constantly having to look at things from a different perspective because countless things go wrong and we have to figure out ways to fix them quickly and cheaply, but not sloppily.
4. The verse I would like to leave behind would be "Veni. Vidi. Vici." it is a Latin phrase meaning, "I came. I saw. I conquered." It was originally used by Julius Caesar after he won a battle very quickly and definitively. I like it because it shows determination and discipline. I want to leave behind a disciplined and determined impression behind when I die. #collegetransition

1. Even if Neil had not met Mr. Keating, I believe he eventually would have committed suicide. Mr. Keating was not the problem, Neil's father was the problem. Neil's father would have continued to press his son in a direction he did not want to go for the rest of his life until he had finally had enough. Mr. Keating told Neil to talk to his dad, he never told him to go behind his father's back.
2. The bravest of all the boys was probably Knox Overstreet. He was going against all of the strongest guys in that girl's school to talk to her and not only that, he kissed her forehead at the party with them. Then, after they beat him up for that, he still went back and got the girl.
3. I believe Keating put the poetry book in Neil's room. I think he did it because he wanted the boys to see the beauty in learning to "carpe diem" in their own lives. He knew that it may not have been the popular opinion, but it was the right thing to do if he really was living up to the standards he called his students abide by. #collegetransition

The central theme of Dead Poets Society was, "Carpe Diem" or "Seize The Day." Throughout the story, every character is struggling to learn how to make the most of their lives and break free of all the fears that hold them back. For Todd Anderson, seizing the day meant learning to speak and read in public. For Neil Perry, it meant getting over the fear of his father. To Knox Overstreet, it was getting the girl he wanted and to Charlie or Nwanda, it was defeating his fear of conformity. Seizing the day can be displayed in any way imaginable, its not about how significant of a change you go through to other people, its about learning to live your life the way you please and not letting useless fears hinder that progression. Even Mr. Keating displays the quality of Carpe Diem. When he realizes that the other teachers and staff are not pleased with his teaching style, he continues to teach the same way because of his desire to teach those children the message that they truly need to hear. Every event that happens throughout this movie leads the characters closer and closer to defeating their fears and living their lives free of things that hinder them. #collegetransition

1. The character who went through the most change in this film was Todd. At the beginning, he was not even willing to read aloud, but by the end he was standing on top of his desk proclaiming, "O captain! My Captain!"
2. The girls who Charlie brings to the Dead Poets Society are very static. The viewers have no clue about any of their life details. There is no indication that going to the Dead Poets' meeting changed their lives in any way.
3. Mr. Keating is a round character. Through the film he becomes attached to the boys and he gets involved with their minds. By the end of the film, he is changed. At the end he no longer shares the enthusiasm he once had about the headmaster and other administrators at his old school.
4. Todd Anderson was terrified of speaking publicly. Slowly, many things made him become more and more brave. Mr. Keating took him to the front of the class room at one point and spun him around and covered his eyes and through all of the chaos, he began to defeat his fear. By the end, he was still afraid, but he definitely overcame his fear. Neil Perry was scared of his father. Once he finally decided to be his own person, he overcame that fear and went and performed in a play without his father's knowledge. However, his dad found out and tried to put him in military school, this resulted in Neil killing himself. In a way he escaped the fear, but at the same time, the fear seemed to have defeated him. Knox Overstreet was scared of talking to a girl that he liked who had a boyfriend. He overcame this fear by forcing himself to talk to her. He got the courage from the lessons that Mr. Keating gave him. Charlie's greatest fear was conformity. He wanted to fight it anyway he could. He defeated this fear by doing things that most people would be too scared to do like bringing girls to the Dead Poets meeting.

A subversive person is a rebellious person. The leaders of the school thought that because Ms. Watson was opening the girls' minds to new art and different experiences that she was trying to cause trouble. Subversive people would be considered troublemakers and rebels.

Betty was most definitely not happy with her marriage to Spencer. He was always gone on "business" which ended up being his mistress. Not only was she having to deal with such an awful husband, but she was being forced to stay home by her mother. Her mother had no sympathy for her situation because back in this time period, it was extremely shameful to get a divorce and importance was very important. Especially for higher class people like Betty's mother.

Over the many years of humanity, there have been many "facts" that have been later proven to be false. There was a time when the earth was believed to be the center of the solar system. Today we know that this is not the case. The point is, if all you do is spit out facts at people, like in the excerpt from Charles Dickens' novel, you rob them the chance to form their own opinions. A progressive style of teaching allows students to decipher the information in their own manner. They have the opportunity to accept or disagree with information regardless of how the teacher giving the lesson may feel. If we are forced to always accept one answer to our questions, we don't have the option to consider multiple angles. People need to learn to question the way things have always been done, not to cause chaos or use it as a form of spite, but simply to be able to understand how they really feel about things. If all your faith is put into a belief that you don't truly agree with because of what other people say, that belief will not make any sense when you're all alone forced to truly consider it.

The coolest theme of this movie was how it showed that even when people are expected to be a certain way, that doesn't mean you have to conform to the normal ways. That you should be yourself even if it is not encouraged by everyone. It also showed how some people get too wrapped up in not conforming and won't except other people which is bad.

I believe that Mona Lisa Smile will be about a lady who teaches art at an all girl's school. The movie will show how her teaching style affects her students. I think this movie will be about showing courage and overcoming obstacles because of the voice of the trailer narrator. I also think that in this movie the teacher lady will get very down on herself and struggle a lot. In the end though, she will learn to overcome these problems. All the girls in this movie learn to view the world in a better way.

I think the fact that high school offers more frequent exams gives students more opportunities to be successful in class. Which would be nice in college, but it makes sense that this preference must change. College should be more difficult. To prepare for exams you can make flash cards, which help you quiz yourself, or work with a friend. There are other methods of course, it is most important to use a method that works best for you. #collegetransition

Over the break, I am probably going to longboard quite a bit. I haven't been able to ride much lately because of school, but I will finally have free time now. We will also probably be hanging out with my aunt, uncle, and cousins because they will be in town from Florida. Finally, I will be playing lots of instruments because I really like to do that. For Christmas I asked for a MIDI keyboard, which is basically a little keyboard that can make millions of different sounds and is used for recording and things like that. Another thing I am asking for is a hatchet. I like to go backpacking and a hatchet is a very useful tool that I sadly do not have at the moment. A hatchet is kind of like a tiny ax. That is what I shall be doing for Christmas #collegetransition

I want to go to college because I can learn a lot of valuable things and having the degrees will help my business look better on paper. I am going to college for myself to help me be successful as an adult in the real world. The most important characteristic for me in college is that it has a good health and fitness program because I am going to be a personal trainer and my major will be related to health. I will be getting help from different adults I know and friends I know that are in college and also online information from and about colleges. I want all of these sources because a good variety of sources will help me get a better idea of what a college is really like. College is going to help me further my knowledge in the career field I want to enter. #collegetransition

Over the break, I am going to get lots of food and lots of sleep. I will also be working out a lot because my personal track workouts start over thanksgiving week to get me in shape in time for track this year. I'm hoping I can make it to state. Since there will be no school, I will probably get bored which means I will probably build something exciting because I like to make things when I get bored. Plus, the weather is supposed to be good, so it'll be a nice time to go outside. #collegetransition

The job I found is a guitar teacher. You can work with guitar stores if they have a program for giving lessons already. Ellis County Music Center offers guitar lessons and they said they are always looking for new teachers. The teachers get ten dollars per lesson and they can teach many lessons per day. The lessons are on Saturdays so they are good for kids my age because there is no school on Saturdays. You don't need work experience, you just need to know how to play guitar like how they want it to be taught. #collegetransition

I thought the movie was very interesting. My favorite part was probably when Liz got in to her high school. It was cool seeing that she had the commitment to put herself through high school and it was cool how the teachers and other people at the school worked with her to help her succeed. If I hadn't grown up in her situation, but was thrown into it slightly later in life, I do not think I would have been as resilient as her. However, I feel like if I, or any other person, had been put in the same situation that we would have responded the same way. She grew up her entire life with the situation she was in, if we had been born into the exact same home and experienced the exact same things, I think all of us have would have been just as resilient because the things that happen in your life are what shape your personality. I am not trying to take away from her amazing accomplishments or anything like that though, she did do some incredible things with the hand life dealt her. #collegetransition

The most surprising part for me about my budget was the price of staying in a two person dorm. It was over a thousand dollars! I expected the cost to be more around the price of a normal apartment. Maybe $600 dollars a month. Whenever the time comes for me to be on my own like this, I will be ready for it, but right now, I am not ready for all of this. I am not saying I couldn't do it if I had to, but I don't want to rush into it all. I am still trying to enjoy what's left of my childhood. I don't think the responsibility will be an issue for me though. I did realize that I need to start learning to be smart with my money and maybe even start setting money aside for the future. To prepare for that, I can buy a mountain bike and things like that now with my parents' money so that I can save money. Just kidding. I will probably just try and learn more about budgeting. #collegetransition

When I grow up, I would like to be a personal trainer. I think being a personal trainer would be an extremely fun career for me because I love working out and being healthy. As a personal trainer you can help people who don't understand how to be healthy which is cool because so many people are brought up without understanding how to properly take care of their body. When I go to college, I want to major in kinesiology and minor in sports psychology. I want to either be a weight loss specialist or a corrective exercise specialist. Weight loss specialists focus on weight loss(obviously) and corrective exercise specialists teach you how to prevent injury when you work out. I think personal training will be a really awesome career because a desk job would drive me crazy. As a personal trainer, I never have to dress up, I get to make people work out all day, and I can enjoy moving around and having fun with my job. #collegetransition
